Dear San

Dear San was birthed when founder Ruth May saw a gap in the market for grab-and-go, healthy and dairy free flavoured cold beverages. The brand aims to create flavoured beverage formulas with high quality and clean ingredients, offering a premium canned beverage option throughout supermarkets, grocers, cafe’s and health stores, as well as a strong e-commerce presence.

We were tasked with the creation of the brand’s identity and packaging design. Our branding direction culminates around the idea of intimate letter writing and plays on the concept of a typewriter, a clear reference to the brand’s name ‘Dear San’. This idea is visually executed through the use of strong/structured serif typography, subtle ink bleeding effects and a unique grid system across the brand’s layouts, typography and image usage.

To take this concept further, the identity also uses circular motifs, referencing typewriter keys, to hold logos and flavour names, as well as a series of key brand stamps.

The packaging design continues this idea with a spacious, typography based design system.
